Powerhoof! The Drifter Reveal...

Announcing our upcoming Pulp Adventure Thriller!

Check out the steam page here for info, and follow/wishlist while you’re at it!

There’s also a press-kit with basically the same info in a much more boring layout- http://press.thedriftergame.com

I haven’t been sharing much about the Drifter until now. But I’ve been working on it, on and off, since we made Peridium back in 2017. I’m hoping to begin sharing more now that it’s out in the open and actually feels more like a real project!

We recently demoed it for the first time at PAX Aus, which worked as a great internal milestone to get a bunch of art, voices and music into the first chapter. At PAX I demoed it on Switch, where I’ve been testing a pretty experimental control scheme. I’ll have to write a blog post about that later, but I was very happy with how it was received. It’s great to feel like it’ll be at home on console, when traditionally the point ‘n click genre is so PC focused.

As for a release date- it’s a looong way off, ask me again in a year. I’m heading to AdventureX in London in a week, and I’ll show the demo there to anyone that wants to check it out, for the rest of you, you’ll have to make do with wishlisting for now!

Are you going to release it on GOG? I don’t support Steam at all and I want this badly.

    • Can’t say for sure, but it’s pretty likely we’ll have a DRM-free version on itch.io, humble and maybe GoG

  2. When will the soundtrack used in the demo be posted? I found the soundtrack so enjoyable, if I played the game I’d probably just sit there and listen to it.

    • That’s so good to hear! I doubt we’ll release it until the game’s done, cause there’ll be more tracks being added up until then. So you’ll have to wait a while I’m afraid!

Did you think about crowfunding, and why not perhaps a limited stock in bigbox?

    this game still alive?

    Reply
    • Yep, I’m still plugging away at it. I’ve been getting it playable as a first draft start to finish, with placeholder art and dialog, so there hasn’t been much to share. Once I’ve finished that pass, I’ll go back and do a second and start getting art in. Then there’ll be some more stuff to show.

    • It’s still a long while off I’m afraid. The game’s roughly playable to the end with placeholder art and dialog now. But there’s a long road to go!

Just wanted to let you know that i love what you did with the demo, if first impressions are something to go by the this game is gonna be great, I think i saw the demo back in 2020 and goddamn am i excited, from the visuals, to the premise, the protagonist’s personality to the soundtrack, everything in there is amazing and I’m willing to wait as many years as you’ll take to finish the project. Good luck on the game developing and I hope you get your stuff done without too much delay

    • Thanks Gabriel, really appreciate that! It’s taking longer than we wanted, but we’re used to that by now 😉 Progress is steady, and I should have some more screenshots to share soon at least!

      • Hey Dave, I loved CRAWL and would love to know if DRIFTER will be a multiplayer game, and are you planing to release the game on consoles such as the Nintendo Switch?

        Reply
        • The drifter is very much a single player game, very different style than something like crawl. But yes, I do plan to put it on switch!

  19. Hello, I was wondering if there have been any updates. I’ve always been a fan of pixelated, mystery, point-and-click games like The Last Door. I played the demo and it gave me a similar feeling, which was great. The game’s visuals are also stunning. Can you kindly update me on any developments? Thank you.

  21. Looks great! Any chance of a switch release?

    • Yeah that’s my goal! I’ve had it running on switch and it has a control scheme specifically designed for switch (and now steamdeck) too. Feels great like that.
