Completely worth your time and money. This game is fun as hell, and is a complete blast to play! Fun to unlock new traps, monsters, and weapons while still providing a challenging game at its core. AI is actually smart and can really do you in, even on Normal or Easy! Playing this with friends with actual controller compatibility is really fluent and amazing! Monsters are diverse and fun, traps are great to mess with and figure out, and the weapons and powers you buy for the humans are awesome and just unique. The Graphics are beautiful to look at, the combat is fun and satisfying to hear that sound of flesh getting pulverized or impaled, and the fact that you can evolve your monsters is just the cherry on top of this beautiful, well crafted game! Overall, even while this is in Early Access, this game can definitely stand on its own, and provide hours upon hours of entertainment and laughs. I am looking forward to more developments and updates, from this two man team, 10/10 a must own!

I doubt there will be. They already released it on Steam and a DRM free version with Humble Bundle.

“Hey look a new game just came out! Lets wait for it to release on that website over there for the same price.” – Said no one ever.

          • I like having games in the same spot. It makes it easier to remember my passwords and download them years later.

Note: I’m just posting this for the developer’s reference and not in the interest of continuing this idiotic discussion with you.

P.S. I hope you don’t lose a higher chunk of change to GOG sales rather than Humble Bundle.

          • Another note to powerhoof: I discovered this game via GOG’s flash page, in case it matters.

      • Atrius97

Well, It says “Soon”, “TBA” and “Unknown”, That translates usually to “We hope it gets released, but it could be tomorrow or in 2 years”

Also, WHY. They released it already. YOU CAN JUST BUY IT, WHY ARE YOU WAITING!??!?!

THERES ALREADY A DRM FREE VERSION.

It’s out, and it’s rad! Next to online multiplayer (of course), I’d love to see an arena mode in which you could pick your monsters and battle it out. It’d be a lot of fun, plus you’d get in some practice with each of the monsters! Thanks guys, I’m loving it, and will blabber on about it to anyone who will listen.

    • we do have some plans to try adding things like that as rare special rooms or portals you might find in a dungeon- enter the special area and get to play a little monster v monster arena battle mode, or 3 heroes vs 1 huge monster and stuff like that!

You could do something like “Last Man Standing” against a room full of deadly stuff.

Traps, monsters, lava… stuff like that.

And the one that doesn’t die, gets control of the human body in the normal dungeon, plus cool rewards.

You could just give them a better weapon, or even stuff that carries to the next game, like a pet or something tied to that player in ever game afterward. Little mini collectibles from mini games. πŸ˜€

Bought and I already won easy and normal. Amazing game. Two things bother me though: The first is that the game is labeled early access, though the game is pretty much finished, now the poor fellows on gog.com can’t sell it. The other is the unlock stuff. Please build in an option or a cheatcode to unlock everything. I can see myself meeting up at a friend’s because he has the larger flat and monitor and then nothing will be unlocked at his.

Someone on Twitter just found where the save data for Crawl is stored. All the progress is stored in the Registry:

      HKCU\Software\Powerhoof\Crawl

You could use regedit to copy this information, and unlock everything you have at your friend’s house.

  22. the game is great…so far i only had the possibility to fight the bots, but wow the ai is really solid, although somewhat predictable…especially at the end boss…he pretty much always uses his death ray instantly which makes it easy to shoot the thingy into his mouth (at least on normal)… but still, even with bots it’s a lot of fun. can’t even imagine what it’s like once i have my friends over…

and what’s really funny: i’ve been watching every single video of crawl out there, and although i have never played it myself before, i feel pretty good at it from the start. the controls are really tight and don’t need much getting used to..

  25. Amazing. Utterly amazing. Had such a blast playing last night. When I first started playing had a hard time keeping my character straight. Ghosts are easy to identify. But when you turned into a monster, got difficult. Basically I learned to just keep my eye on the creature.

Great job guys! Noticed you made it on unity. Would love to see crawl on my iPhone…my oh my would that keep me going on my transit rides. πŸ™‚ And then local wifi co-op in the car… magic.

I’ve been having a blast unlocking all the stuff in the game (even by myself)! Any plans on perhaps turning the game into a single-player experience at some point? Either way, you guys are freaking geniuses. Enjoy my money!

  28. congrats , great game , great feeling , great art and animation . The AI is very solid indeed , it has something life like in its attitude you rock πŸ™‚ . For me the game just needs some adjustments and balance, as the core and the mechanics work perfectly . Healing potions drop and gold treasures for instance . As the hero you sometimes want to die just to earn some blood money , and it just feels wrong regarding the game’s goal. Can’t wait to test the upcoming content , you have invented something guys !!!

  36. Absolutely loved playing the game with three bots on the first day it released, then over the weekend I fired it up with my three nephews.. we had two of the best game nights ever! They’re super picky with the games they play(They love their FPS games), and this is the one they kept wanting to get back to!

Thanks for the good times, this is the gem I knew it would be.. and then some! This is one that’ll stay in rotation!

Love the game and everything that has gone/will go into it. I do have on request, I’d love to be able to change the level where the portal becomes accessible in the options. This might give more of an ability to play around with some of the high level gear and monsters. Of course, you might already be working on that for all I know. Anyway, great work! Keep it up!

    Reply
    • thanks! πŸ™‚ we will look into something like this- i’m not quite sure if the game format will stretch well to a longer match, but we will defiitely investigate! if it does work out, we would likely hide it as a special event you can trigger in-game… if you smash the special shrine props you will anger the gods and raise the level required or whatever πŸ˜€

Like if a weak player has the human body he can sabotage the gate because he knows he isn’t ready to kill it yet. Give more of a chance to level up. Or you could make it a shop item that increase the gate level.

This game is absolutely awesome…. you need to make this for PS4/Xbox One!… it would be a smash hit and would sell millions! Especially if you can play over the internet!

Gaming in general is crying out for couch games….. there is a big void that can be filled…

Thanks for the awesome game and keep up the great work!

I kinda disagree… depends on what genre you like though.

GTA V, Skyrim, Bioshock, M&B Warband (so addictive for me anyway lol), plenty of good games, some of the best games of all time.

Then you have these lovely indie developers… with Crawl, Nidhogg, Minecraft… all awesome games.

    • yep, once the launch craziness dies down and we get back on track with developing updates, we will be keeping track of what we’re changing and adding for each update on the website- we might do it with a bit of a redesign to the crawl page- haven’t quite figured out the best format for it yet πŸ™‚
